State Assistance

State Support in Action

State-level investment makes a direct, measurable difference in the lives of veterans and their families. Thanks to increased support from Kentucky, Ohio and Texas, USA Cares has been able to expand its impact and meet the growing need for emergency financial assistance across these states.

Kentucky

With funding from the Kentucky Legislature, USA Cares significantly expanded its ability to respond to local needs. Since receiving additional support in August 2024, we have:

  • Increased the number of veterans assisted by 43%
  • Grown direct assistance by 14x since 2021
  • Responded to a 32% rise in assistance requests since 2020

Ohio

USA Cares was honored to be included in Ohio’s state budget in the summer of 2025. Since the fall, we have been able to distribute these funds to support veterans and active-duty families across the state by addressing challenges that can contribute to veteran suicide.

Texas

Texas continues to have one of the highest concentrations of veteran need nationwide. Funding from the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) has allowed us to scale our efforts and deliver meaningful results:

  • Texas made up 18% of all USA Cares assistance requests and 27% of payments in 2024
  • After receiving additional funding in August, the number of veterans assisted increased by 38%
  • The approval rate for assistance rose by 17 percentage points
  • Without continued support, approval rates could fall back to 22%, meaning 242 fewer veterans and families may receive help
This program is supported by a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance. The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance provides grants to organizations serving veterans and their families. For more information, visit www.tvc.texas.gov.
