Winter Weather Support for Military and Veteran Families

Winter weather can create sudden challenges for military and veteran families, from unexpected expenses at home and missed work to utility shutoffs that can lead to unsafe living conditions. When storms hit, these disruptions can escalate quickly, especially for families already balancing fixed incomes, service related transitions or limited flexibility at work.

USA Cares is here to help.

In response to the most recent winter storm, USA Cares is offering limited emergency assistance for veterans, service members and their families who have been directly impacted. This support is intended to help stabilize households facing storm related hardships and reduce the risk of unsafe living conditions during extreme weather.

How winter weather impacts families

Severe winter storms can affect families in many ways, including:

  • Missed work due to unsafe road conditions or school closures
  • Unexpected home related expenses tied to winter damage
  • Utility disruptions that make it difficult to stay safe and warm
  • Added strain on household budgets during an already challenging season

For military and veteran families, these challenges can be especially difficult to navigate without additional support.

Emergency assistance available

USA Cares is currently providing emergency assistance to eligible veterans, service members and their families impacted by the recent winter storm. Support may be available in your state for needs such as housing related expenses and utilities.

Applications are reviewed by USA Cares caseworkers, who work directly with families to understand their situation and determine eligibility. Assistance is limited and available for a short period of time, so applying as soon as possible is encouraged.

Support made possible through partnership

USA Cares is proud to be a member of the Bob Woodruff Foundation’s #GotYour6 Network. We are grateful to the Bob Woodruff Foundation and Craig Newmark Philanthropies for supporting this natural disaster response and helping make emergency assistance available to service members, veterans and their families.

Partnerships like these allow USA Cares to respond quickly when unexpected events threaten the safety and stability of military families.
