Longtime USA Cares Supporter and Veteran Bill Howard Donates $200,000 from Ford GT Sale to Aid Veterans

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Renowned businessman, veteran and longtime USA Cares supporter Bill Howard has taken a remarkable step to support those who have served by donating $200,000 from the sale of his prized 2005 Ford GT. The donation will empower USA Cares to provide essential resources such as safe housing, utility assistance, and career training to veterans and military families in crisis.

Howard, a passionate car enthusiast and collector, decided to downsize his collection of 14 cars, recognizing they could serve a better purpose. After each of his children selected a favorite, he chose to sell the 2005 Ford GT—a car similar to the model featured in the film Ford v Ferrari—to benefit the causes closest to his heart.

The car, with just 22,000 miles, was appraised and sold on October 17 at the Branson Auto Auction in Missouri, an auction house owned and operated by a fellow veteran. To honor Howard’s philanthropic intent, the auction house waived all fees, ensuring maximum proceeds from the sale would go toward helping veterans.

“They serve a better purpose than sitting in the garage,” said Howard. “As a veteran, I know firsthand the challenges our servicemen and women face. For me, this was an opportunity to give back in a meaningful way.”

Howard has been a champion of USA Cares for 17 years, participating in multiple galas, serving as an annual donor, and advocating for our mission. His wife, Jill Howard, is also a devoted supporter of the organization, sharing his commitment to improving the lives of veterans and military families.

“We are incredibly grateful for Mr. Howard’s longstanding support and this extraordinary contribution,” said Whitney Hobbs, Vice President of Outreach and Development at USA Cares. “His generosity will make a huge impact on the lives of veterans and military families facing challenges, and his dedication is truly inspiring.”

In addition to the $200,000 donated to USA Cares, Howard is allocating the remainder of the car’s sale proceeds to seven other veteran-focused organizations. This larger philanthropic effort underscores his unwavering dedication to supporting America’s veterans nationwide.
